Google Glass Enterprise Edition to compete Microsoft Holo Lens

Google Glass is the OHMD (Optical Head Mounted Display) developed by Google X (later became X), which was devised to display data requested by the user in hands-free format. On 15th May 2014, Google has released Google Glass into the market. But due to disastrous criticism, Google has halted its production from 15th January 2015.

Almost after two and half years of its discontinuation, Google has now announced the next iteration of Google Glass as an enterprise edition. Both the Google Glass first edition and the Enterprise Edition are similar in design, the latter one has huge developments over the other. The major drawbacks of the first edition are battery life and comfort. Google claims that both these drawbacks were addressed along with some enhanced features in the Enterprise Edition.

Microsoft is working on Mixed reality and has launched HoloLens and so did Google launch Google Glass Enterprise Edition. Though the Executive in charge Mr. Tony Fadell has resigned Google in last year, X continued its work on the Glass project. X started working with a team of more than 30 experts to bring the best for the Glass project.

Here is a glance of enhancements of Google Glass Enterprise Edition over the first edition.

  • The first version was launched with OMAP 4430 1.2GHz dual core processor. Though there is not specific information, it is expected that a better processor, probably a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon series, is used.
  • The 1GB RAM of the first generation device is upgraded to 2GB.
  • The three sensors - 3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer remains the same, along with ambient light and proximity sensors.
  • The 5MP camera of the first edition is upgraded to 8MP and is capable of recording full-HD videos.
  • When compared, the batter of the Enterprise Edition is found to be superior, as X claims that battery life is one of the major enhancements.
  • Robust Wi-Fi connectivity when compared to the predecessor.

The experts who had a view of the prototype are stating that the gadget will powered by a PC running Windows 10 rather than a smartphone. The price was announced as 1,000 Pounds.
