Facebook to launch its Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset

Facebook is now setting better pace in the production of its Virtual Reality (VR) headset - Oculus Rift. The concept of Virtual Reality is path breaking in theory but it is not as successful as the imagination. Facebook is going to unveil an affordable VR headset, that sustains the quality and user experience on par with the high end VR headsets.

As of now, there are two paradigms of VR headsets - low-end VR headsets with smartphones as the VR player and the high-end gaming rigs with desktop computers as the VR players. Samsung's Gear VR and Lenovo's VR headset are the best examples of low-end VR headsets; Facebook's Oculus Rift is the best example of high-end VR headset.

With the new Oculus Rift VR will be bridging the gap between the high-end and the low-end VR headset, alongside providing quality VR experience to the user. The Samsung Gear VR is available at a price of $130 and the Facebook's Oculus Rift VR headset is available at a price of $400. But, the new Oculus Rift VR headset falls in a price range of $200. On the other hand, this headset can be tethered either to a smartphone or a personal computer.

The design of Facebook's VR headset is not yet complete, as per the announcement of Oculus spokesperson Alan Cooper. Oculus has built its first ever VR prototype way back in 2010, funded by Kickstarter. However, the market for VR headsets is as less as only 2.3 million devices were shipped in the first quarter of 2017. This number is minute, when compared to the number of smartphones available - 347 million in number.

According to the records, Samsung is the leading the VR market. The Facebook's VR headset will be shipped in 2018, at an affordable price of $200 USD.
